Strategic planning is a essential tool for an organization that is useful to provide guidance for taking day to day decisions and also for measuring and evaluating progress and changes when moving forward.
Strategic planning is responsible for taking long term goals and objectives of the business .
Decisions that are taken at strategic level affects the entire organization. These plans are responsible for defining long term policies of the organization which includes market strategy, business direction etc.

Operational planning:

This planning is responsible for management of daily activities which requires operational information for conducting day to day business.
The main purpose of operational planning is to provide a clear idea and picture of tasks and responsibilities of organizational personnel in line with goals and objectives that are contained within strategic plan
It supports the strategic goals and objectives taken by the top level management
