Expert Solution

Answer: A protist is any organism that is not a plant, an animal, a fungus or a prokaryote (A)

Explanation: The living organisms are divided into five kingdoms.

Kingdom: Monera, these are unicellular prokaryotes (cells without nuclei and absence of cell organelles), this kingdom consists of eubacteria (true bacteria) and archaebacteria (differ in lipids of membranes and cell wall structure).

Kingdom Protista: these are unicellular eukaryotes (cell with nucleus and show presence of cell organelles)

Kingdom Plantae: multicellular eukaryotes with photosynthetic ability and show presence of cell wall made up of cellulose.

Kingdom Animalia: multicellular eukaryotes which are heterotrophic and absence of cell wall.

Kingdom Fungi: multicellular eukaryotes which are saprophytic and show presence of cell wall made of chitin.

Kingdom protista includes variety of organisms, they are all eukaryotes but some of them show resemblance to fungi but are not fungi as they do not develop from spores and unlike fungi they show presence of cilia or flagella, some are similar to plants in being autotrophic but do not show the presence of true root, stem, leaves. They can be like animals being heterotrophic and showing movement but are much simpler than animals hence not considered as animals.

And they are not prokaryotes as the cellular structure is of a eukaryotic organism. Eubacteria and archaebacteria both are prokaryotes, hence the answer is prokaryotes.

Choose any one plant tissue. Compare and contrast that tissue to animal epithelial tissue. The answer should include the makeup of each, considering structure, function, and interactions (or lack of interactions) between cells; it should also address how different organisms can build different tissue to address similar issues, so choose the tissue carefully.
