In: Anatomy and Physiology
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Vinnie is a professional road cyclist participating in the 2020 Giro d’Italia, a three-week race nearly 3,600 km in distance with some stages exceeding altitudes of 2,700 m above sea level (i.e., Stelvio Pass, Italy). As the newly hired head of the high-performance team, it is your responsibility to manage his preparation for the event. You must demonstrate to your team a fundamental understanding of physiology, the chronic adaptations expected from his training, and methods that could be implemented to improve the likelihood of success.
QUESTION:
Your first job was to schedule a VO2max test for Vinnie to examine his aerobic fitness. After repeating the assessment several weeks later after an intensive training block, you notice that VO2max has dropped, but there has been an increase in VT2. Please discuss why VO2max decreased and what impact both changes will have on performance?
(Subject - EXERCISE physiology)
ANS: VO2max test is the test for evaluation of aerobic fitness.
A person can use the more oxygen during high level of exercise. so a person can produce the more energy.
The muscles need oxygen for prolonged aerobic exercise and the heart must pump adequate amounts of blood through the circulation to meet the demands of aerobic exercise. so, this test is very useful for examine the aerobic fitness.
By putting a face mask, we can directly measure the volume and gas concentrations of inhaled and exhaled air.
another test is exercising on a bike or a treadmill at an intensity which is increased by every few minutes untill get exhausted. so it is examine to achieve a maximal effort.
2 minute step test: for examine aerobic fitness and lower muscle fitness.
6 minute walk test: first slow walk then increase the intensity of walk so that can build up the stamina and energy. and useful to examine aerobic fitness.
Beep test: Progression form one level to the next level by 3 quick beeps.
it will also useful to examine aerobic fitness and to build up the energy.
so, after repeating the assesment, VO2 max has dropped because during long term training shows to decrease their VO2max by 6-20% and increase in VT2.
The intermittent exercise give better result than the continuous one in increasing maximal aerobic energy so that can allow longer time at VO2max.
VO2max means maximum consumption of oxygen.
VT2 means the anaerobic threshold or lactate threshold.
VO2max indicates exercise needs to conclude due to exhausion.
VT2 indicates out of breath at high intensity.
so, VO2max dropped during exercise at some point and increase in VT2 it will give high intensity.
This changes will impact on performance that the exhausion period will decreased and high intesity or more energy produced. so aerobic fitness will give performance to be better and vinnie can achieve his goal.
so that the 38 ATP generated and vinnie can use this energy with high intensity.
now, vinnie will have more energy after good aerobic fitness.
