Discuss swallowing and describe three phases involved.
Discuss the sequence of digestion
Swallowing or deglutition is the process of transporting food from theoral cavity to the stomach where the actual digestion happens. Three phases of swallowing are
Oral - Physical digestion occurs with tooth and mixed with saliva to form a soft consistency called a bolus.
Pharyngeal - Closing of vocal fold to prevent entering into airway.
Esophageal - Bolus istransported to stomach by peristalsis.
Alimentary canal is the largest twisting tube from the mouth to the @nus invovles some hollow organs like mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and @nus.Digestive system also compose of solid organs like liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. The process of digestion involves:
Ingestion - entering of food via GI tract.
Propulsion - Peristaltic motion of food via GI tract.
Mechanical or physical digestion - With the help of tooth in oral cavity.
Chemical digestion - enzymes are taking part.
Absorption - Small instetine is responsible for absorption wiht the help of villi, a finger like projection.
Defecation - Elimination of wastes.
