What type of defects and how many are likely to be created when 1.5 moles of NiO are added to 97.5 moles of SiO2?

Solutions

Expert Solution

When 1.5 moles of NiO are added to 97.5 moles of SiO2 the following problem takes place:

1.As the concentration of SiO2 is veryy high as compared to NiO ,it will lead to the problem of deacivation of catalyst. The catalyst produced can be used in various forms like steam reforming process.

2.When these two componds are mixed it results in small calcination process. The calcination reaction is exothermic. So the above mixing can prove to be hazardous also. Prper temperature control is necessary while mixin NiO and SiO2.

3.Cheange in crystalline structure of SiO2.

4.It leads to the cration of MICROSTRUCTURE during the mixing process.

5.The internal structure of Si is more stable than Ni.So mixing SiO2 with NiO leads to changes in the stable internal structure.

6.The resulted compound undergoes deactivation process by the action of 'Sintering' which reduces its activity.
