EXPALNATION :
Mechanism of action of OCPs or birth control pills is prevention of ovulation and thus prevent pregnancy. These pills contain Progesterone and estrogen.
Progesterone will send negative feedback to hypothalamus - - - > Decreased secretion of gonadotrophin releasing hormone - - - > Decreased secretion of FSH and LH from anterior pituitary - - - > Follicular development is disturbed - - - > Estradiol level will not increase, which is usually produced by developing follicles- - - >LH surge will not takes place due to lack of estrogen mediated postive feedback mechanism - - - > No ovulation - - - > No pregnancy.
Progesterone also inhibits sperm motility by altering consistency of cervical mucus. Thus helps in preventing pregnancy.
Estrogen inhibit follicular develpoment by sending negative feedback to anterior pituitary and thus slows FSH secretion. But Progesterone have important role in OCPs.
**Progesterone inhibits oxytocin - not correct.
** Estrogen inhibits ovulation directly is another wrong statement.
** Progesterone inhibits implantation - not yet proved.
