Week 8 Discussion
The Central Limit Theorem is the Big Idea behind a lot of the statistics actually used in science to draw conclusions. Why is that?
First, restate the theorem in your own words. Then explain why you think it is important. It's OK if your ideas aren't fully developed yet, I want you to feel around and explore ideas.
ANSWER:
The central limit theorm lets us assume normality for large samples of data, even though their population distribution or parent distribution are non-normal distribution themselves.
This is important because many practical aspects / events are not normal distribution in real life. But we can still model the events using normal distributions, find parameters for those distributions and simulate probability. For example this will enable :
This makes the CLT very powerful in that the approximations enable us to fit and apply normal distributions, and therefore solve for probabilities given a new condition.
