1. Air pressure refers to how the weight of air above a given place is distributed over the area taken up by the place. The weight of air deals with the way gravity pulls the air toward the ground and how much air is above the place. Is the amount of air above a square foot of ground in Edmond more or less than the amount of air above a square foot on top of the Devon Tower in Oklahoma City (tallest building) ?
Which has the least air above it, one of these or a square foot on top of a mountain ?
Rank these three places from lowest to highest air pressure.
2. Balloons are nice containers for gas samples, because the pressure inside can increase or decrease to match air pressure. If a balloon is taken from Edmond to the top of the Devon Tower and then to the top of Pike’s Peak (a mountain in Colorado), what happens to the size of the balloon (the volume of the gas) if the temperature is the same all three places ?
Change from Edmond to Devon Tower:
Change from Devon Tower to Pike’s Peak:
3. What happens to a balloon when it is taken from a warm house after a birthday party to a cold temperature outdoors ? (The air pressure does not change from the house to the outdoors.)
1.
The air pressure depends on area to calculate, density of air , temperature etc. In ground level the density of air is high as the heavy components of air like O2, N2 , .... are found because of gravity pull to the heavy metals. As the hight increases , the gravity pull became lower and compounds with low Moleculer weight is found in larger amounts. As the hight increases the density of air decrease as well as pressure of air decrease with respect to density of air components and temperature.
The air amount in ground Edmond are is more than the tallest building of Oklahoma City for one square foot.
The air amount is depand on the hight .If we consider the top of the mountain then it have low amount of air because of hight his higher among the three.
The order of the amount of air is: ground level > top of the building > top of the mountain .
2.
The size of the balloon is increasing as we increase the hight.
As the hight is increasing the amount of air decrease and pressure of air decrease. If balloon is increasing the hight, the pressure of air inside the balloon increase because of low pressure out side of balloon wall. So size of balloon increase with hight and the order is same as question 1.
3.
The air pressure is depends on temperature . In above two answer we consider temperature is constant.
When a balloon taken to cold it will decrease it's size as pressure decrease in both inside or out side of the balloon wall.
