3.     Explain how Douglas Bag and Electronic Gas analyzer is made and tools used. How to Perform a Vo2 max test?

Douglas bag:-  its an inflatable bag used to collect expire air for the determination of oxygen consumption and basal metabolic rate(BMR)

4 steps to measure the respiratory gases by using Douglas bag:-

• Step -1:- Explain to client the process of air collection and ask them if you can put a mouthpiece on them
• Step-2:- Ensure valve is closed and place mouth piece in clients mouth
• Step-3:- Get client to breath for a bit before putting the nose clip on and Start recording
• Step-4:- close the valve stop recording and take mouthpiece/noseclip off.

Electronic gas analyser:- An instrument that measures the concentration of an individual gas in a gaseous sample.

• 2 parallel wires receive current flow from an external power source (battery)one wire is exposed to room air, while the other is exposed to gas being measured.

VO2max:-

Maximum rate of oxygen uptake in the body during maximal aerobic exercise.

It extracts: utilisation of oxygen by the muscles during work/exercise.

It will measured by the following equation:

• VO2 = cardiac output× anteriovenous oxygen difference.
