As part of the structural decisions taken within the operations context, product and service design is a key element for organizations’ success. Today, many companies promote more creative, collaborative and value-added oriented design processes in order to better respond to customer needs. This approach is known as design thinking.

Do you agree that simplicity is nowadays a key competitive advantage? Explain why or why not.

Yes, I agree that simplicity is a key competitive advantage because customers generally will prefer establishing business relationships with organization who have simpler process or they will prefer goods or services that are simple to handle. For example if while purchasing a product from an ecommerce site if there is a lot of complexities while paying, then the customers will not prefer to purchase online and this will be a setback for the organization but if the process is simple then customers will make it a point to purchase products based on the website.

The other factor that adds value to the customer is the quality of service that the organization is providing and quality of service deals with the pre sales service that is providing proper review and rating of the product along with quick shipment and delivery. Then there is post sales service that includes taking feedback from the client and acting on the feedback to make the service or product better. In case of any issues the service should be even better because these are the times when the actual character of an organization is determined.

As a customer while purchasing a product through ecommerce organizations with the help of mobile applications it has been quite a fine experience for me because it was convenient as I ordered the product sitting in my couch in the home and even paying online, as I was buying it from the mobile application, I also received an offer discount and some gift vouchers as well. I believe that technology has helped the process a lot and business has been better.
