Case study: Patient HL comes into the clinic with the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The patient has a history of drug abuse and possible Hepatitis C. HL is currently taking the following prescription drugs: Synthroid 100 mcg daily Nifedipine 30 mg daily Prednisone 10 mg daily.
Write a 1-page paper that addresses the following:
Explain your diagnosis for the patient, including your rationale for the diagnosis.
Describe an appropriate drug therapy plan based on the patient’s history, diagnosis, and drugs currently prescribed.
Justify why you would recommend this drug therapy plan for this patient. Be specific and provide examples
1)The patient HL is presented with the history of drug-abuse. Nausea and vomiting are caused by variety of factors which includes drug ingestion/overdose and gastrointestinal disorders.
It is possible that the nausea and vomiting in HL is due to drug withdrawal to check this possibility the treatment line should be based on what type of drug that patient was withdrawing from .
It could also arise due to gastrointestinal disorders which also depicts the same symptoms as that of HL's i.e. nausea , vomiting and diarrhea. He could have had GIT disorder through contaminated food or water.
The other cause for his illness could be the medications he is taking which is Synthroid , Prednisone and Nifedipine. These three drugs have side effect as nausea and vomiting. Which could be due to HL's hypersensitivity or drug interactions.
According to my rationale the main factor for all these problems is Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is the cause of nausea and vomiting of HL.
Drug therapy plan -
After the proper interpretation of the cause of HL's problem the suitable drug plan should be administered immediately.
