1. Describe two key difference between digital control systems and their analog counterparts. Your answer should include both a block diagram and a discussion on key design choices in each topology.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Digital Control Systems

  1. Digital control systems deal with binary or discrete signals having values 1 or 0.
  2. Their input-output relationship (also called as transfer function) are represented by difference equation in z-domain.
  3. It uses Fourier Analysis,z-transform,DFT transform techniques.
  4. Noise, interference and distortion is comparatively less in case of digital control systems.
  5. Power efficiency is more.
  6. Storage , analysis and processing of data is easy and convenient.

Analog Control Systems

  1. They deal with continuous signals that can take a wide range of values.
  2. The transfer function is given by differential equation in s-domain.
  3. It use Laplace Transform techniques.
  4. Noise , interference and distortion is comparatively more.
  5. Power efficiency is comparitively less (because of continuous signals).
  6. Storage , analysis and processing of data is a bit complicated.
