When an organization expands globally, the number of remote employees and partners also increases. Social media offer a bridge in connecting these all isolated employees and engage them in the values, culture, operation, and performance of the organization. The media tools are bringing several rapid changes to organizational communication and public relation. But business culture, technological inertia, and security could be detrimental to communication and collaboration using social media.

Some of the employees spend an excessive amount of time on using social media at the workplace, not for professional but personal reasons, and employees may harass their co-workers on the social network. The competitors of the company could come to know their business practices and happening with the blogs and podcasts.

Using social media in business culture opens the risk of hacks, viruses, and privacy breaches. There is the possibility of hacking of the business data and threats of the virus and spam attacks. The physical disconnection causes a lack of teamwork and efficiency. It is difficult for any company to always communicate with the customers on social media. Any negative comment about the company could affect the reputation of the company as its criticizers will spread it.
