why would a US wall outlet have a 50hZ reading? 1. demand of load exceeds supply of source. 2. supply of source exceeds demand of load. 3. demand of load and supply of source are equal. 4. there is no load on source
A US wall outlet shall generally have a 60Hz reading. However if the wall outlet shows a 50Hz reading, this means that the total demand of power from the grid is more than the grid can supply. As the demand of load exceeds the supply, the total current demand of the laod connected on the system is very high. since current is directly proprtional to the torque developed by the generators, torque demand increases and as a result the speed of the rotors in the generators decreases. Now, frequency of supply is directly proprtional to the speed of the rotor and the number poles in the machine and is given by the relation,
'
Where P=No of poles,
N=Speed of rotor in rpm
Hence as the speed of rotor reduces, the frequency of suppky dips
Hence option 1 is correct.
