(a) What does INTEL‘s ―Optane Memory‖ provide?

(b) What are some of the claims made by the ―Intel Marketing Department regarding Optane Memory.
DDR5 memory is the latest computer memory being developed and will eventually
replace DDR4 memory.

(c) What are the maximum clocks speeds for DDR4 memory, and what is being
proposed for DDR5.

(d) What is the current maximum throughput available for DDR4 and what is
proposed for DDR5.

Expert Solution

question1 1)

Intel Optane memory provide:-

1) It is slower than DRAM, but much faster than flash memory.

2)Low Latency- it is one of Intel Optane’s memory
Read speeds are consistently high, even with multiple write operations running in parallel.
Even with extremely heavy loading scenarios, Optane can still ensure latency meets
the requirements for latency-critical applications.
Intel claims that the read response times are continuously below 30 microseconds while
maintaining a 70% read and 30% write workload.

3)Endurance-Due to the unique technology used, Intel Optane has a very high endurance
of up to 60 Drive Writes per Day (DWPD). This number represents how many times
the drive’s entire storage can be overwritten each day of its life.

question 2)

these are some of your feature of DDR4 AND DDR5 .

features DDR4 DDR5

DDR5 ADVANTAGES

SPEED

1) 1.6 TO 3.2 gbps data rate

2) 0.8 to 1.6 GHz clock rates

1) 4.8 to 6.8 gbps data rated

2) 1.6 to 3.2 GHz clock rates

1) higher bandwidth

2) DDR5S-4800 INITIAL DESIGNS

IO VOLTAGE 1) 1.2 v 1) 1.1 v

1)LOWER POWER

POWER

MANGEMENT

1) on motherboard 1) on DIMM PMIC

1) better power efficiency

2) better scalability

CHANNEL

ARCHITECTURE

1)72 bit data channel

2) 1 channel per DIMM

1) 40 bit data channel

2) 2 channels per DIMM

1) higger memory efficiency

2) lower latency

BURST LENGTH 1) BC4,BL8 1) bc8,bl16 1) higher memory efficiency

THERE ARE THE REASON DDR5 WILL REPLACE DRR4 MEMORY.DDR5 IS IMPROVE VERSON OF DDR4.

question 3)
1)DDR4 CLOCK SPEED-
DDR4 operates on low operating voltage (1.2V) and higher transfer rate.
The transfer rate of DDR4 is 2133 ~ 3200MT/s. DDR4 adds four new bank groups technology.
Each bank group has the feature of single-handed operation.
The DDR4 can process 4 data within a clock cycle.

2)DDR5 CLOCK SPEED-
DDR5 operates with double the speed of DDR4. The transfer rate of DDR5 is 3200 ~ 6400 MT/s.
The DDR5 specification was released in Nov 2018 and ICs are expected to be in the market by 2022.

QUESTION 4)the current maximum throughput available for DDR4 and proposed for DDR5.

1)DDR4

DDR4 data transfer rates:
DDR4 2133:17 GB/s
DDR4 2400:19.2 GB/s
DDR4 2666:21.3 GB/s
DDR4 3200:25.6 GB/s

2)DDR5

DDR5-8400:134.4GB/s
