How is computer arithmetic distinct from pencil-and-paper forms?
Computer arithmetic is one of the advanced technological aspects. For several aspects computer arithmetic is distinct from pencil-and-paper form. Below given points explain in details.
i. Reliability :
If the required inputs are correct and properly inserted to the computer, it will give correct and accurate output, which may be a problem in case of pencil-and paper form. Because mathematical calculation through manually on pencil and paper can be wrong at any step and due to following the wrong steps, the next forwarded steps will be wrong and ultimate can give wrong answer.
ii. Accuracy :
The result of calculated answer through computer arithmetic is much more accurate than answer generation through pencil and paper. Because generally, in floating point calculation, the requirement of decimal values as per requirement of scenario can be easily controlled, but in manual calculation with pencil and paper format , working with floating point values are often problematic to give accurate result.
iii. Speed :
Computer arithmetic is much faster than pencil-and-paper format. So, in shorter period of time more results can be generated with computer arithmetic.
iv. Record Keeping :
In present technological advancement, the derived answer can be used as an important input data for next operation. In such cases it is much more reliable and easy to keep record saved in computer arithmetic, where computer generated results can be well preserved for next operation, where as in pencil-and-paper approach, it is difficult to keep record save and use for next operation.
v. Study of objects :
Computer arithmetic is one of the better approaches to study with objects, diagrammatic representation, and graphical shape analysis and according to that result generation is much easier in computer arithmetic, where as with pencil-and-paper, it is difficult to work with such graphical views, because imperfection in manual diagram draw is a possible issue and according to that result derivation can be erroneous.
