7. Identify two factors that affect the lifetime of pollutants in the atmosphere, and explain how these two factors affect pollutant lifetime. (SHORT ESSAY)
Sources of air pollution:
Pollutions enters the Earth’s atmosphere in many different ways. Most air pollutants is created by people, taking the form of emission from factories, cars planes. These man made sources of pollution are called anthropogenic sources.
Some types of air pollutants, such as smoke from volcanoes occur naturally. These are called natural sources.
Air pollutants is most common in large cities where emission from different sources are concentrated. Sometimes, mountains or tall buildings prevent air pollution from spreading out. This air pollution often appears as a cloud making the air murky.it is called smog.
Factors affect the lifetime of pollutants in the atmosphere
Major ambient air pollutants include toxic metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, particulate matter, Ozone.
Power plants and vehicle are most important anthropogenic sources of air pollution.
How it effects:
Clean air is considered as one of the basis requirements for human health and subjective well-being. Air pollutants effects breathing polluted air puts you at a higher risk for asthma and other respiratory diseases.
