Define the term attachment, how are the topics and what is their importance for the stage of the stage childhood.
Attachment can be defined as an affectionate tie that a person or animal forms with another person or animal, and tie binds them and endures over time.
There are four characteristics of attachment:
1. Proximity maintenance: To be in close proximity with the other person we are attached with. And be near to them as much as possible.
2. Safety: To be safe and secure with the figure of attachment. This person is the safety and comfort zone for the attached person.
3. Exploration: These attached figure allow the child to explore the world and at the same time exploring it while being safe.
4. Separation: When the child is kept away or moved away from the attached person they feel separation anxiety.
Importance of attachment: Attachment helps the child be safe and secure and be protected at the most vulnerable times in their lives. It also provides the child with development of the emotional bond with care giver and this helps them form social bonds. The attachment pattern of the child with its caregivers gives an idea about the behaviour pattern of the child and many problems may be caused if the child does not develop adequate attachment. Children who are not securely attached as children, develop social and emotional problem when they grow up.
