Question:
Which is more likely to have a greater thermal death point, a psychrophile or thermophile? And why?
Psychrophile --- these are the organisms that are cold loving. They can survive in low temperature of about 0° to -15°C. High temperature kills them.
Thermophile = these are Heat loving organisms. They have capability to survive in high temperature of about 50° to 80° C. Temperature lower than 50°C or above 80° C do not suit them and they can't survive in that.
Thermal death point = thermal = heat; death point = point at which an organism dies. It is the lowest temperature to kill an organism or Microbe for a specific time.
So, from psychrophile and thermophile ---- Thermophile have greater death point.
It is because thermophile are able to tolerate high temperature but psychrophile survive in low temperatures. So, as heat or high temperature is provided the psychrophile will get killed but thermophile will survive on that temperature due to its tolerance to high temperatures. And thermophiles will require a temperature greater than there tolerance level ( > 80°C) to have thermal death point. So, Thermophile will have greater thermal death.
Thank you.?
