Discuss how ecological effect can be used to determine if or which fuel cell can be used to power a residential complex.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Most of the fuel cells are using hydrogen and oxygen. So if you want to choose a fuel cell on the basis of ecological effect than you need to understand that hydrogen is very much explosive. But if hydrogen is handeld with proper care than it's a safe fuel.

For ecological effect we need to consider 3 factors

1) Nearby area of a complex

If nearby area is having forest or any other industry like crackers than use of fuel cell should be avoided. because hydrogen is flammable and if it gets leaked than it will cause large damage to the surrounding as well as ecology due to fire in forest.

2)Generation of NOx Gas

Fuell cell generates the NOx gas which is dangerous to the environment. High level of it NO2 causes nitric acid and it contributes to lake of acidification. It leads to the damage of trees and plants as well. It also causes the corrosion of metals and rubbers.

3)Storage

The properly enclosed and leak proof storage of hydrogen should be there. Otherwise it will cause the fire. so if such type of storage is availible than only you can use uell cell without harming environment.

If you get the answers of above three points in positive manner for particular fuell cell than you can use that particular fuell cell
