A 21.8 % (by mass) solution of ferrocene (FW = 186.04 g/mol) dissolved in hexane (FW = 86.18 g/mol) has a density of 1.490 g/mL. What is the mole fraction (Χ) of ferrocene? Ferrocene is a non-electrolyte.
21.8% solution of ferrocene means 21.8g of ferrocene present in 100g of solution
mass of solvent = mass of solution - mass of solute
= 100-21.8 = 78.2g
no of moles of ferrocene = W/G.M.Wt = 21.8/186.04 = 0.117moles
no of moles of hexane = W/G.M.Wt = 78.2/86.18 = 0.91moles
total no of moles of ferrocene + hexane = 0.117+0.91 = 1.027
molefraction of ferrocene (X) = no of moles of ferrocene/total no of moles
= 0.117/1.027 = 0.114>>>>>answer
