Identify the statement regarding blood pressure that is FALSE.

a. Blood pressure is reflected as two numbers; stated as systolic over diastolic pressure.

b. Systolic blood pressure refers to the pressure at which blood begins to flow following the contraction

of an artery.

c. The diastolic number is the pressure at which the heart relaxes after contraction.

d. When measuring blood pressure, the cuff is placed around the forearm, just below the elbow.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Blood pressure is the pressure at which the blood flows through the arteries in relation to cardiac muscle contraction.

Blood pressure is mentioned in two numbers systolic reading on top and diastolic reading on the bottom.

Systolic blood pressure is the pressure of blood flow against the arterial wall during ventricular (cardiac) muscle contraction.

Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure of blood flow against the arterial wall during ventricular relaxation.

The standard placement of blood pressure cuff is on the upper arm with edge of the cuff positioned around one inch above anti cubital area. However, blood pressure can be measured on forearm also if the measurements on upper arm is not possible. In that case , the cuff is placed on the widest part of forearm which is closest to elbow. The reading will be high compared to the standard reading from upper arm.

Thus the statement which is false is

b.Systolic blood pressure refers to the pressure at which blood begins to flow following the contraction of an artery.
