Discuss the biological & analytical variation that will influence the results interpretation in URINALYSIS.
Urinalysis is the gross, histological, biochemical and
microscopic examination of the urine specimen.
Some of the common biological and analytical factors that may
interferre with the urinalysis results are:
1. container for specimen collection : a container that is
unsterile and contaminated with other microbes may give false
results.
2. similarly infected, unsterile pipettes and slides can also
interferre with the results.
3. Storage of the specimen is also important. If the specimen is
collected sometime before the tests it should be preserved in the
refrigerator. Improper storage may cause bacterial growth.
4. A thorough drug history of the patients should be taken. Some
drugs may interferre with urinalysis and should be stopped before
the test.
5. Some dyes and vitamins also interferre with the test.
6. the time at which the urine is collected may also interferre
with test results. First urine in the morning is usually
recommended.
