Complete and balance the following redox reaction in acidic solution

a) ReO4- (aq) +IO- (aq) --> IO3- (aq) + Re(s)

b) Pb^2+ (aq) + IO3- (aq) --> PbO2(s) + I2(s)

c) IO3- (aq) + Re(s) --> ReO4- (aq) +IO- (aq)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Step 1: Identify the reduction and oxidation parts.

Step 2: Balance each part separately.

           i) The change in electrons would be equal to difference in oxidation states.

          ii) Next balance everything else, except H and O

          iii) Balance charge by adding H+

          iv) Balance ), by adding water molecules.

Step 3: Add both the reduction and oxidation half to cancel the total electrons and Simplify.

See the attached solution for a) , b) and c)

*kindly give feedback
