Post a brief explanation of two similarities and two differences between each pair of concepts (i.e., social change vs. leadership, social change vs. advocacy, and leadership vs. advocacy). Provide examples to illustrate your points. Then, explain 2–3 conclusions you drew or insights you had as a result of doing the comparison.
Two differences between social change and leadership:
1. Leadership can be defined as the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a shared goal. Social change is all about bringing some kind of change in the society.
2. As discussed above, social change is all about bring a change in a society and leadership is the means to bring about the same.
Two similarities between social change and leadership:
1. Social change helps us correcting the wrongs that ache a society. And leadership also tries to do away with the malignancies that are inherently present within the system and bring about a positive change.
2. Leadership fosters social change at the very core of any institution. It brings about changes that are hard to being about as these practices which need to be done away with have been followed since a long time and have been internalized. Social change, also works on the same lines. A code of ethic in a society is followed by people in a shared manner, that is, it is reinforced by people for each other. Hence, it's proved to be commonly correct. Hence, any change that challenges the same will face a lot of flak.
Two similarities between social change and advocacy:
1. Social change and advocacy, both aim at bringing a new chain a thought which refute the practices which used to followed and introduce ideas which bring about a fresher perspective.
2. Both of these concepts stem from the fact that a change needs to be brought about. Both of these concepts rely on working on the gaps in a society which lead to betterment and improvement.
Two differences between social change and advocacy:
1. Advocacy is a way through which important decisions taken within the political, economic and social decisions can be influenced. Whereas, social change is an umbrella concept which entails advocacy as well.
2. Social change is all about bringing the change where it's needed and advocacy sponsors the same.
Two similarities between leadership and advocacy:
1. Leadership and advocacy both look at fostering a change by either being a guiding force or a promoting force. Both require the development of self determination skills which are acquired from the very beginning in one's life. How family behaves and inculcates in a child sets the foundation of both leadership as well as advocacy.
2. Leadership does require some amount of advocacy as well. Any leader who want to do something for good also has to a change agent. And, a change agent is a sponsoror of change and makes it happen.
Two differences between leadership and advocacy:
1. Advocacy can also be understood as taking responsibility or being accountable for oneself. However, leadership is taking responsibility and being accountable for others. It helps others to achieve a shared goals and also empowers them to take such a challenge up in future.
2. Advocacy is all about taking action to support a cause. One can do that without having to lead others to walk on the same path. Yes, through this one individual, others can be influenced and imbibe the same thought process as well. However, a leader represents one whole institution which goes by a particular thought process and leads by having everyone in the group he leads on the same page.
My insights:
1. All good advocates do not have to be good leaders. However, all good leaders should be good advocates.
2. A Leader reprents an ideology. People following him/her follow the same ideology
3. Greta thunberg is an advocate for climate change
