Between groups One way ANOVA

A researcher wants to see expand on the study that looks at music’s effect on studying. She has three groups and has each group listen to different genres. All groups are studying a list of words while listening to music and then write down how many words they remember. She collects the following data:
Group listening to Run The Jewels:
7, 9, 7, 5, 6, 5, 8
Group listening to Arctic Monkeys:
7, 5, 4, 7, 3, 4
Group listening to Green Day (Dookie era):
7, 5, 8, 4, 2, 4, 5, 7

a. Who are the groups being tested:

b. State the null and research hypotheses:

c.

SOURCE SS DF MS F
BETWEEN
WITHIN
TOTAL

What are the means of each group?

What is the Grand Mean? (add up all the scores, divide by number of participants)
What is DF between? (number of groups -1)
What is DF within? (Nx -1 + Ny -1 + Nz -1)
What is DF total? (DFbetween + DFwithin)
Complete the table according to your notes
d. What is the critical value?
e. What decision do we make?

Solutions

Expert Solution

a) Testing groups are Run The Jewels:Arctic Monkeys: and Green Day (Dookie era):

b) H0: There is no significance difference among the three group means

H1: At least two group means are different

c)

d) F- critical value = 3.555

e) Since F - value < F critical value so we accept H0

Thus we conclude that there is no significance difference among the three group means
