A survey was conducted to determine whether the gender of voters is associated with the gender of their choice of political candidates in an election where a male was running against a female. A total of 40 women and 40 men voters were surveyed. 30 of the women voters chose the female candidate, and 10 chose the man. 24 of the male voters chose the male candidate, and 16 chose the female. With the computer or by hand:
a)construct an appropriate 2x2 contingency table
b) what is the null and alternate hypothesis?
c) calculate expected frequencies for each cell in the table
d) calculate the chi sq. statistic
e) the p value for the chi square statistic was 0.017, please interpret the meaning of that.
b) H0: there is no association between the gender of voters and the gender of their choice of political candidates.
H1: there is an association between the gender of voters and the gender of their choice of political candidates.
the p-value is the probability of obtaining and effect at least as extreme as the sample give assume that null hypothesis true. foreign sufficient level of significance P value is less than level of significance like 0.05 therefore reject the null hypothesis.
there is sufficient evidence to conclude that there is an association between the gender of voters and the gender of their choices of political candidates.
