What is the open point in a sub-network of distribution substations? How does it operate? Please provide specific details.
Ans) The open point in a sub network of distribution system is
an extra step to provide more reliability over different netwoks in
distribution systems. The below disgram B-busbar d= distribution
lines from 1 to 4 in taken out of 2 main distribution feeders which
are connected through open opint represented as switch in the
circuit.if one any kind of fault
occours at d1 the open point will isolate the second dictribution
circuit manually.so that the distribution of d2 and d4 is not
interrupted and only d1 and d3 are interrupted. and if fault
occours at d2 or d4 the first distribution feeder won't get
effected as secong circuit get isolated and the first radial
circuit still operates. in modern power systems they were
controlled even by autoation circuits. they are very necessary for
the relability of the system. A primary loop open point is
sometimes necessary for critical loads lie hospitals that gets
connected by them from both ciruit 1 and ciruit 2 and will trip off
if one gets network gets fault and still receives power from other
network as it is health and thus decreases the failure of power at
hopitals and critical loads by vast number as both circuits having
fault at same time is less likely to occour.
