- What materials are ( or can be ) used for adhesives? ( general families)
- What kind of "triggers" are used to cause the "curing" of some polymer adhesives?
- What geometries are "best" for adhesively bonded joints ? What are their names, what do they look like, Why are they "best"?
- When should you choose a material for a new product?
- What criteria do you need to consider in material selection?
- How often should you review the materials and processes for an existing product?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1) Materials which are ued for adhesives are:

white craft glue

yellow wood glue

cyanoacrylate or super glue

Hot glue

Spray adhesives

Fabric adhesives

Epoxy

Polyurethane are used in general family of adhsives.

4) When choosing materials,

the questions to be taken to notice is

- will they be easy to rocess?

-will they meet the performance requirements?

- Do they have the right asthetic properties?

Most products need to satisfy some performance targets, which are determined by considering the design specification they are cheap or stiff or strong or perhaps all of these.

Each of these performance influences which material we shold choose , if our products need to be light then we wouldnt choose lead and if it was to be stiff we wouldnt choose rubber.

5) Material Selection is not so difficult as it might appear but it does require an awareness as it might appear but it does require an awareness of the general behaviour of plastics as a group, as well as a familiarity with the special characteristics of individual material.

Firstly, function of the proposed product and to identify service requirements.

Secondly, the sustainability of a range of candidate materials.

Mechanical properties like strength, stiffness, fatigue, Toughness and the influence of high or low temperature.

6) In the organisatons, the head's direct reports is recognized as the champion for the overall process management and improve approach and all the key processes that are owned at the most senior level of organisation.

Clear roles and responsibilities for managing processes exist.

Cross functional teams, trained in process improvement, are in place.

Appropriate measures in place.

ohnston Adhesives Company makes three widely used industrial adhesives: A101, A204, and B216. Sales and production information for each of the three adhesives are shown in the following table. Most of Johnston’s customers ask for a special blend of the three products, which improves heat-resistance. The additional separable processing requires additional time and materials, and the price is increased accordingly, as shown in the table. Assume that Johnston produces only for specific customer orders, so there is no beginning or...
