what are the stories of Adam & Eve and Abraham & Sarah about in and of themselves? What themes do the authors of the New Testament emphasize when discussing these stories? What does this tell us about the beliefs of the early Christians?
Ans) The events in the bible start with the story of Adam and Eve, who are the first humans created by God and placed in paradise (garden of Eden) , to inhabit the earth forever, God only gave them one commandment not to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and bad, but after being deceived by the devil, Eve eats the forbidden fruit and also shares it with Adam. Both Adam and Eve are banished from Eden for disobeying Goa, and now have to suffer hardships and fend for resources on their own. Adam and Ever were created to live an eternal life, but by disobeying God they lost that privilege of everlasting life, their sin brought death and suffering to humans. But God made a promise to humans that a savior or redeemer will emerge, who would reverse the sins of Adam and Eve and end suffering and death for humans.
Years after the incident at the garden of Eden, the bible tells us about Abraham and Sarah, who are God fearing couples, God tests Abrahams faith by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac, when Abraham is about to sacrifice Isaac God stops him and makes a promise to him and Sarah, that it would be through their lineage, the savior or redeemer would be born.
The New Testament originates after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, believing him to the be the savior or redeemer, as promised by God after the events in the garden of Eden and to Abraham. The New Testament focuses on the life of Jesus and states that his death, has redeemed mankind from the effects of Adam and Eves sin and Jesus is the means through which humans will attain salvation, and be freed from death and sufferings.
