Power over Ethernet
(POE):
- The latest update of the POE standard is IEEE
802.3at standard which is also called as the
POE+.
- Power over Ethernet(POE) is the standard in which the
electrical current is being run down towards the networking
hardware over most of the Ethernet Category 5 cable or
higher.
- This makes the router work without any extra AC power cord near
the location of the router. It helps in minimizing the amount of
the cable which is being needed. It also eliminates the
difficulties and the cost of installing the extra outlets.
- It helps in saving the money which was going to be invested in
the purchase of the running cables and also the networking types of
equipment or the VoIP phones that we were going to buy.
- POE helps in installing or expanding the network which is much
simpler and also cheaper in the buildings where it will become too
expensive or inconvenient for installing the new power lines
effectively.
- The POE also helps in mounting the devices in the places where
installing power supply will become next to impossible. Hence, it
will help in saving the space that is being required by normal
cables.
- It helps in reducing the number of cables and electrical
outlets that are being used by similar pieces of equipment and also
can be settled in between the crowded types of equipment or any
wiring closet.
Hence, this is why POE is the Ethernet standard which will let
you install routers in a particular room without a power
outlet.
