Deep vein thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clots forms in the veins of the blood vessels. it is usally formed in the legs of the patients who usually are not motile. if the clot is dislodged from the location it moves freely inside the veins, it might reach the lungs and block the passage for the lungs. which is a very dangerous condition.
patient education points
1. Nurse should ensure the patient is motile, that is moving sufficently every hour. if the patient is on bed rest or unconcious then patient attender or nurse should change the positon of the legs od the patient.
2. nurse should educate the patient about exercise because most of the patient with DVT have cardiac disorders, so enagaging increase reduce the cardiac risk and improves the circulation blood, so that clots wont form
3. dehyration is a risk factor which increases the clot formation, so nurse should suggest the patient to drink good amount of water to prevent the thicking of the blood.
4. the nurse should also encourge the patient about self injecting thrombolytic durgs, which should be used by the patinets for a long time.
5. nurse should decribe the using of antiembolism stockings which prevent the fromation of embolism mechanically.
