Myelinated axon fibre conduct nerve impulses faster than the Non myelinated axon.
Myelin is insulating sheath present over the axon which is produced by the Schwaan cell in peripheral nervous sytem and by Oligodendrocyte in the central nervous sytem.
Conduction of nerve impulse in the myelinated axon is called Saltatory conduction
This name is came from the movement exhibited by the organism called Hydra.
In myelinated axon the Action potential are travelled from one node to another node.
This node is called Node of ranvier.
Node of ranvier is the place in the myelinated axon where there is no myelin and the axonal membrane exposed .
This area of the myelinated neuron have more amount of voltage gated sodium channel than the other area. this will help in the rapid depolarization of the membrane and the action potential are travelled vey fastly.
Inter nodal area of the myelinated axon fiber are covered by the Myelin.it act as a insulation
In unmyelinated Axon the nerve impulses are propagating through the axoplasm not through the surface.
Conduction of nerve impulse through the axoplasm is slow compared to the Myelinated node to node transmission.
For unmyelinated transmision more energy is required compared to the myelinated nerve fibers because mkore sodium potassium pump are uswd.
