In a double-slit experiment, the interference pattern formed due to the interference of two light which is generated from a single source. And the phase difference occurs due to path difference.
In the above figure, the two sources of light for interference are s1 and s2 but they are generated from s0.
At central maxima, the path difference of light coming from two sources is zero. Now if you change the position of s0 then the path will change and the condition for central maxima (I.e. zero path difference) will occur at a different position. So the position of central maxima will change.
If we place s0 behind s1 then the central maxima will move down because in this condition zero path difference condition will be satisfied. Here the distance between s0 and s1 will decrease and s0 and s2 will increases.
