3. You are looking at percent strength gain over a 10-week training program for the squat exercise. You have two independent variables: training status (freshmen and sophomore, junior and senior), and gender (male, female).

Here, the independent variables are training status (freshmen and sophomore, junior and senior), and gender (male, female) which are categorical and the dependent variable is percent strength gain over a 10-week training program  for the squat exercise, which is numeric.

In case of more than one independent variable (categorical ) and numeric dependent variable, we use two way ANOVA

Hence the correct technique to be used is two way ANOVA

We will have three alternatives ( equality of training status, equality of gender and interaction ).

In case of rejection of hypothesis for equality of training status and interaction we will have to perform post hoc for the equality of pairwise means
