describe how the structure of the cellular membrane allows it to do its function. in your answer include three functions and indicate which molecules contribute
The cell membrane is based on fluid mosaic model. It states that the membrane is a lipid bilayer structure containing two layer of phospholipids and intervening cholesterol and contains few protein, whic may or may not spans the whole width of the cell membrane. The phospholipid is arranged in two layers. The hydrophobic ends are placed in the centre and the hydrophilic ends are faced outward for outer surface and inward towards cytoplasm. It also contains glycocalyx and glycoproteins,
frunction:
1. Cholesterol: it helps in fluidity of membrane, so that cell can attain a structure according to need and become flexible.
2. Membrane Protein: they can span the whole phospholipid layer or may penetrate a single layer. They acts as receptor of various biological molecules and can act as a channel protein to pass various molecule through the channel.
3. Glycocalyx: it is formed by attachment of oligosaccharide chains to the ;iPod Bilal and act as ear and eye of cell me,brand and helps in attachment of cells and identification of various substance outside the cells.
