3) Explain production of gasohol, not exceeding one page
A process for the production of a gasoline (90%)-anhydrous ethanol (10%) fuel for internal combustion engines, comprising the steps of:
-dehydrating a dilute aqueous ethanol solution to an extent sufficient to produce an aqueous ethanolic product containing about 90 weight percent ethanol;
-contacting said ethanolic product with a gasoline;
-cooling the resulting gasoline-ethanolic product admixture comprising an organic phase and an aqueous phase to a subambient temperature sufficient to expel from said organic phase most of the water it contains without forming ice;
-separating the resultant organic phase comprising a major amount of gasoline and ethanol from the resultant aqueous phase comprising a minor amount of gasoline; and
-recovering the resultant gasoline-ethanol product suitable for use as said fuel.
