Two identical concave mirrors are set facing each other 2.8 mapart. A small lightbulb is placed halfway between the mirrors. A small piece of paper placed just to the left of the bulb prevents light from the bulb from directly shining on the left mirror, but light reflected from the right mirror still reaches the left mirror. A good image of the bulb appears on the left side of the piece of paper.

what is the focal length of each mirror?

previous answers were both = 1.4 and both = 0.7 and these are not correct.

A series of 3 identical pool balls are placed next to each other in a horizontal line at rest. A 4th identical pool ball collides elastically with the first ball at a velocity of 5 m/s. After all of the collisions in the line take place elastically, the velocity of the last pool ball in the line will be:

2 identical magnets are arranged with like poles facing each other on a frictionless 30 degree slope. The magnet on the lower position is held in place and can't move. the magnet in the higher position on the track is held in place by the balance of the upslope force due to the magnetic repolsion between the magnets and the downslope force due to the weight of the magnet. The mass of the magnets is 50 grams each. The distance...

Charlie conducts an optics lab with two concave mirrors with focal length f1 = 4.0 cm and f2 = 5.2 cm. He secures an object and the holder for the mirror on the optics bench: we insert the two mirrors into the same holder. We use a moveable holder for the screen. He uses a circle as an object so that the images are also circles. Unfortunately, Charlie kept a poor record of his experiment. a) Charlie’s notes indicate that...
