In the development of the electrical power systems used in the world, two very prominent scientists who contributed to this development were Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. Edison preferred a DC system at 100 volts whereas Tesla preferred an alternating system at 240 volts and frequency of 60 hertz, adopted by Westinghouse Electric. Based on your new knowledge of electricity what are the advantages and disadvantages of the Edison and Tesla systems? Provide an explanation for your responses.
Tesla system .(AC current )
Advantage-using this method we can transfer electricity to far distances .
using electric Transformer we can convert heigher voltage to lower voltage and vice varca.
since AC current periodically change direction so it is less dangerous.
Disadantage-since transmission of electricity to far distances required higher voltage lower current
mathod for reduce the power loss. but higher voltage can be risky.
it could be dangerous for human like.
Cost or price of AC Transmission line are larger than DC Transmission line.
Edison system(DC system)-
Advantage- Today's electronic devices(leptop ,computer. led bulb...) required DC current.
Due to absence of inductance(AC resistance), there are very low voltage drop in DC transmission lines comparing with AC.
DC system have less potential(it work at less potential ) over AC system . Therefore, a DC line requires less protection..
Disadvanteges-
Electric power can’t be produce at High Voltage. due to power losss.
Transformer can not work on DC
Motor generator(steam engine) set is used for step down the level of DC voltage and the efficiency of Motor-generator set is lower then transformer.Transformer has heiger efficiency.
