1. An individual has a stroke that affects their reticular formation in the brainstem. What types of symptoms would you expect?
2. An individual has a stroke that affects their thalamus. What is one difficulty that they could experience? What about the thalamus would lead to this symptom?
3. An individual has a stroke that affects their hippocampus. What types of symptoms would you expect?
Stroke that affects reticular formation causes
sleep disorders because reticular activating system in the brain maintains sleep cycle.it causes fatigue ,disrupted sleep patterns and changes in sexual arousal. In severe cases the patient may fall into coma and may lead to fatal.
stroke that affects thalamus causes
Symptoms include ataxia, visual disorders, drowsiness and may develop epilepsy sometimes may effect the memory and show some pain syndromes. In severe cases it may leads to coma and leads to death in some cases.Thalamus acts as relay center that transmits the sensory signals from spinal cord and brainstem to the cerebral cortex.Thalamus losses it's function as relay center when there is stroke in thalamus.
stroke that affects hippocampus causes
Hippocampus function is to maintain memory if there is any stroke in hippocampus it leads to loss of memory and causes Alzheimer's disease.it losses the integration with the cerebral cortex. The patient feels excessive stress when stroke in hippocampus, as the stress hormones are hindering in hippocampus
