Expert Solution

A - Ceramic investment material block - It is a material used as an investment in fabricating the mold in the castingg process

B- Rubber buffers used for polishing the ceramic or zirconia after the finishing of the surface.

This device is Facebow: A caliper -like instrument used to record the spatial relationship of the maxillary arch to some anatomical reference point and then transfer the same relationship to an articulator. It helps to transfer the same relationship of the maxilla to the articulator during recording of thee maxillomandibular relation for fabrication of the complete denture prosthesis. In short it is used to record the centre of the condylar rotation to form a plane to record the three dimensional relationship of the maxilla to the cranial base.If this process goes wrong, the Maxillomandibular relation after placing the complete denture prosthesis will be changed from patient's original relation and ultimately causes pain in the TMJ.

There are two types of face bows:

  1. Arbitrary
  2. Kinematic

Parts of a facebow marked in the picture are:

a.U-shaped frame: To which all the other components of the facebow are attached, having extension from the Temporomandibular joint of one side to the opposite side.

b.Bite fork: A rod which is attached to the maxillary occlusal rim during the procedure of marking the Maxillomandibular relation. It should be inserted about 3mm above to the occlusal surface of the maxillary occlusal rim.

c.Orbital pointer: Helps to mark the anterior reference point

d.Condylar rod: Two calibrated metal extensions fit on both sides of the free end of the frame. The frame's free ends are placed on the determined centre of condyle into the patient's ear.

e.Locking device: These are three in number. They attaches the bite fork to the frame, orbital pointer to the rod and for attaching the condylar rods

Answer ALL parts. (a) The reaction B + C → D just becomes spontaneous at a temperature of 78.1 °C. When the temperature is increased to 220 °C: (i) Calculate Gibbs free energy (ii) Calculate equilibrium constant (iii) State whether the products or reactants are favoured at this temperature and explain your reasoning (iv) State the assumptions associated with your calculations.
