Calcium is very important divalent cation comprising 1-2% of our total body weight and 99% of which is found in bone and teeth.
Calcium is involved in tremendous physiological function in our body.
Calcitonin and parathyroid are two major hormones which are responsible for calcium homeostasis in the body.
Physiological function which involves Ca2+
The very much affected cell because of calcium imbalance in course of electrical excitation are -- cardiac cells / cardiac muscle
Skeletal muscle cells
And in synaptic neurotransmission.
As Calcium is required for the excitation contractions coupling of muscles.
Also Ca involve in the release of neurotransmitter at the synaptic vesicles.
Apart from the above three. Following are the functions of Calcium in our body
1.building bones and teeth
2. Blood clotting
3 nerve transmission
4. Releasing hormones and other chemical
5 muscles contraction
6. Enzymatic activities
