Expert Solution

The following are the top 5 government agencies/department that received the biggest allocations in the 2020 budget under 2020 General Appropriations Law of Philippines.

  1. Department of Education (DepEd)
  2. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
  3. Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)
  4. Department of National Defense (DND)
  5. Department of Health (DOH)

As usual, most of the government agencies received budget hikes. Similar to the previous years' budgets, the 2020 general appropriations law gave priority to education, infrastructure, and interior affairs. Apart from that, the education and infrastructure sector also receive the biggest allocation since they are among the core sectors of an economy.

Because of the delay happened in signing of the budget bill, the government had to operate under a reenacted budget for 4 months. It was in the year 2019. This has clearly reflected on the prioritization in the budget for 2020.
