What are some of the reasons behind the inadequate response of U.S. government agencies to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina?
The Hurricane Katrina created a catastrophic damage and left the people without water, power, food and immediate help. The structural and institutional meltdowns at all leves resulted in delayed search and rescue operations, and inadequate responses to people in need. The main reason for the inadequate response was the federal government did not have any information concerning the devastation caused by the hurricane. The another reasons is that the organizations in charge of the rescue operations did not coordinate their efforts and lacked a strategy for the mission. The hurricane Katrina will be remebered for the federal government's organizational and the governmental failures. The people in the coastal area were unresponsive to the warnings given by the National hurricane center, the people had a long-stamding experience with hurricanes so they did not gave much importance to the warnings.
