Organizational Learning: Organizational learning are defined as the learning and development of employees in the skill and expertise required for executing the business processes in more efficient and effective ways. The organization runs a employee learning and development programs as a continual process to keep improving the knowledge, skill and expertise of employees for effective and efficient business results.

Knowledge Management: The KM of a firm is the process of storing the knowledge and expertises developed during the past operational duration of the organization and using it to train and develop future employees, so that they can learn it quickly and apply it in the business processes as and when it is needed for the organization. This is the knowledge library for the organization which can be used for the learning and development of the employees.

Reason for Success of KM: the KM of a firm can be success due to following reasons:

  • The good collection of knowledge on business processes can be easily learned by the employees to achieve better business results.
  • This acts as a reference center for employees when they are in need of desired knowledge.
  • Good support system for the employees.
  • Avoid large program costing and management resources to employee learing and development.
  • Effective option for employee learning and development
  • Effective way for self dependency of the organization in terms of knowledge and expertise.

Reason for Failure of KM: the KM of a firm can be a failure due to following reasons:

  • Low interest of employees to refer the KM’s content for their development
  • Large cost, time and resources in managing the KM
  • KM content may not be directly related to the business issues/scenarios.
  • Level of new employees may not be adequate to understand the contents of KM library.
