The struggle for women’s rights has made some important strides and experienced a number of setbacks over the last 30 years. Discuss the “Equal Rights Amendment,” Title IX of the 1972 Education Act, the Supreme Court’s decisions in Franklin v. Gwinnet County Public Schools (1991), and Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. (2007)
There were many difficulties that were put forward in order to address the ERA and its implementation. The trace back to its origin and since the time it had first been proposed could be seen through the development of ERA. “The ERA, in varying forms, was introduced in every session of Congress from 1923 until 1971, but it was routinely bottled up in committees and never even received a floor vote until after World War II.” He elaborated how Hayden Raider , Paul as well as the National Women's Party opposed passage of the ERA. Also, though the amendment was endorsed by president John F Kennedy, it wasn’t pushed for in the house. In 1966, the National Organization for Women (NOW) was founded, which formally endorsed the ERA in 1967. Many organisations focused on various events and advertising that would raise awareness for the amendment.
The franklin v Gwinnett county public schools was a case in the Supreme Court where a decision had been made about the se-xual harassment that was faced by students in the school. This decision stated that any student who is subjected to this sort of a behavior could come forward and claim for monetary damages which would also be awarded in such cases. Titled IX. Federal court had dismissed the suit stating that monetary relief was not provided in Title IX cases, and the decision was affirmed by the 11th circuit court.
