The arteries that transport blood towards the head?
The oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart is
drained into the aorta from where it passes to different arteries
branching from the arch of aorta. The major arteries supplying the
head are carotid and vertebral arteries.
The arch of aorta divides into brachiocephalic artery and left
common carotid artery. The brachiocephalic artery further divides
into right common carotid artery. The right and left common carotid
arteries ascends towards the head and divides into right and left
internal and external commoncarotid arteries.
The external carotid artery gives off six branches : Superior
thyroid artery, Lingual artery, Facial artery, Ascending pharyngeal
artery, Occipital artery, Posterior auricular artery.
The arch of aorta also gives of subclavian artery which further
divides into right and left vertebral arteries. The vertebral areey
joins to form basillar artery at the base of pons. The vertebral
arteries also gives of anterior and posterior spinal arteries,
posterior inferior cerebellar artery.
Circle of willis: arterial anastomoses that supplies structures of
brain. It consists of right and left Anterior cerebral artery,
Anterior communicating artery, right and left Internal carotid
artery, right and left Posterior cerebral artery, right and left
Posterior communicating artery.
