What does a MO energy diagram that describes the functioning of a LED look like?
Dear Student,
Please note that the light emitting diode(LED) is an optoelectronic device that is capable of emitting a fairly narrow band of light with a very short response time when the internal PN junction diode is applied enegry which is converted to light energy.
The following diagram shows the energy level diagram representing the same. In this case the application of forward bias results in the flow of electrons which fall from the valence band from the conduction band, and int he process emit photons, which are manifested as light having various colors. The difference in the energy level between the conduction band and valence band (known as the band gap) corresponds to the energy aasociated with the wavelength of the light being emitted.
