What does a positive starch plate look like and what does it mean with regard to the identity of the bacteria present and what it produces?
at first starch agar is inoculated with the bacteria and then iodine is added.Generally iodine forms blue-black in the presence of starch,if this colour does not happen then that starch is no longer present in that medium.Bacteria which shows the clear zone around the growth normally produces the exoenzyme amylase.
