Part 1: Personal growth and development strategy
Based on the lesson this week was about the strategy that we can develop ourselves for the personal grow. There are five key parts of a strategy, those are: arenas, vehicles, differentiation, staging, and economic value. Below are my personal growth and development:
My arenas and differentiators:
I want to work as a manager in one of the restaurants or a company that will provide me with a stable wage, benefits, and overall peace of mind. I would like to relocate to many different countries. However, there is one in particular in which I love the most. This country is the land of the rising sun (Japan). The capabilities I need are to study hard to get my degree, learn more to gain skills, and knowledge to provide to the company that I work for. Organizations that value these capabilities are ones that are successful, have good leadership, are creative and have the capacity to be able adapt to different styles, it is extremely important for an organization to value these capabilities because there has to be a structure of compassion and good subordination. The capabilities that I would love to have and excel are to have a better understanding of business and how it works. Furthermore, I wish I could learn languages faster so that I can communicate with everyone around the world. A linguist is something I would love to be in the future and I hope to accomplish it one day.
Personal Vehicle:
Something that I need to accomplish is attain my degree at University of the People and get a better job for a better future. Things that I want to accomplish on my own is how to be a better communicator with my colleagues at work. Another thing I want to accomplish is being a better person each day. Everybody needs someone in life and I’m no different so accomplishing my goals is very important for me. Therefore, we need people to support each other mentally and emotionally with the help of others I will stay motivated. There are few in my life that I can consider everything for me. Those people are my wife, family, and friends. These are the people that try to motivate me the most.
Staging and Pacing:
The sequences of events that need to happen is me putting all my effort into my studies to get my degree, then attaining a great job, after I gain more knowledge, I will set my own business. The financial requirements and consequences of each event is that it will require saving money, time, and health. The consequences of each event will depend on my willingness to never give up. The deadline for this first event will be in at least five years. This means that everything has to go according to my plans above. I will ensure that this deadline is met with the motivation of people that are around me and care about me.
Part 2: Feedback skills
Feedback for me is crucial to my success at University of the People. Therefore, when I receive negative feedback, I don’t take it well. It is not because I cannot accept it but it is due to peers not knowing how to provide constructive feedback that will elevate me and empower me with courage. When I provide feedback, I try to be just about it. This means that I try to look at the strong points and weak points of my peers. As I previously mentioned in the question above, I like to be elevated and feel empowered to accomplish things. Therefore, the same principle applies to all my peers. Constructive feedback needs to be given in the most respectful way so that the peer does not feel discouraged from doing his/her work. To be honest I don’t think I have to improve my feedback to my peers. Why? Because I always try to be fair to everyone and I expect everyone to be fair as well. I want everyone to work as a team. If there is something, I must improve on my feedback is provide more detailed examples of their work.
In conclusion, the diamond strategy provides me with the necessary steps to be able to develop my personal growth and development. Similar to the diamond strategy providing constructive feedback in a positive way guarantees positive results and better relationships.
